Game Summary: Coulda-Shoulda. The Beavers fall to Barron at Barron, losing by three runs despite committing five errors and allowing 10 walks. Graham Miller, the Cumberland ace, usually features exceptional control, but the bases on balls hurt him all night... and in all honesty, he didn't get enough help from his defenders as well. The Beavers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st when 3B Adam Bielmeier drew a walk, stole 2B, and scored on a two out single by Mitch Blaser. Barron answered with three of their own in the inning when Miller walked Josh Davidson and Brett Mueller to lead off the inning, then allowed a double to opposing pitcher Brandon Johns. Davidson had already scored when he reached 2B on a steal and 3B an error by C Beau Bergstrom ... and then scored on a passed ball. C Brent Burdick singled, and reached 2B on an error by CF Tommy Zappa. DH Eric Holten drew a walk, and Mueller scored on a sacrifice fly to RF Brady Rose to score. Derek Riebe hit a ball to 3B misplayed by Adam Bielmeier for the third error in the inning. Miller got CF Trevor Severson to flyout to CF to end the inning and strand two. The Bears tacked on another run in the fifth. Hilbert led the inning off with a double, advanced to 3B on a groundout, and scored on another passed ball. The Beavers got the run back in the sixth when Zappa led off with a double, and Blaser and Miller hit consecutive singles. Johns got Sawyer FollansbeeDelong to pop out to him, Brady Rose out on a hard liner to RF, and Graham Severson to pop out to 2B to strand two. The Bears tacked on three more in the sixth aided by errors by 2B Graham Severson and 1B Mitch Blaser. Cumberland tried to rally in the last inning. DH Sam Clark struck out, but Bielmeier singled. SS Nolan Scheps reached on a fielder's choice. Zappa reached on an error by 2B Derek Riebe, his second error of the game, to keep the game alive. Blaser tripled, driving in two runs. Miller followed up with a double, scoring Blaser. Unfortunately, FollansbeeDelong struckout for the third time in the game, ending the threat. The Beavers fell to 7-7 overall. JV Summary: The silence of the bats continues to plague the young Beavers as they dropped a 6-2 decision to a much more experienced Barron club. Pitchers Travis Nyhus and Mike Harris threw well, allowing only three earned runs. C Ryan Behling and LF DJ Cifaldi had the only two hits for the Beavers, who stranded nine runners on the night. The JV record stands at 3-3. |
