Game Summary: Shoddy Cumberland defense and a lack of timely hitting cost the Beavers their second consecutive defeat. As anticipated, the Beavers faced Joel Effertz, who threw three scoreless innings, striking out seven while walking none and allowing no hits. Cumberland countered with their ace, junior Graham Miller, who also threw exceptionally well. He struck out 13 Lumberjacks, while walking four and allowing only two hits. Three of those walks proved costly, as he walked Effertz and Jason Prince with one out in the fourth. Mark Schmidt singled to load the bases, and walked in a run by walking Matt Jansen. Scott Strop singled in two runs, to give Ladysmith a 3-0 lead.

The Jacks got two more in the fifth when Richard Smolik led the inning off with a single, and was pushed to 1B by a Mitch Rogness sacrifice bunt. After Effertz was intentionally walked, Jason Prince hit to Miller who misplayed the ball, allowing a run to score. Effertz scored on a groundout to make the score 5-0. The Beavers cut it to 5-1 in the bottom of the 5th when Sam Clark drew a one out walk. He was forced out by a Graham Severson fielder's choice. Sawyer FollansbeeDelong got his first of two hits. Brady Rose got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jason Prince, pitching since the fourth, walked in a run by walking Mike Forster. He got Beau Bergstrom to ground out to end the inning.

Mitch Rogness led the 7th off with a single, and Effertz hit a home run to leftfield to make it 7-1. After Miller walked Prince, he was lifted for freshman Adam Bielmeier, who got Schmidt to ground to 3B. The ball was misplayed by Clark for an error. After striking out Brent Sisko, Clark committed another error on a ball hit by Matt Jansen. Schmidt scored on a fielder's choice by Strop. He struck out Otis Hamilton and got Smolik to pop out to 1B to make it 9-1.

The Beavers got three runs in the 7th. After Severson struck out, FollansbeeDelong and Rose singled. After Forster walked, Beau Bergstrom singled hard to LF to score FollansbeeDelong. Tommy Zappa drew a bases loaded walk. Mitch Blaser dumped a single in centerfield to drive in another run. Prince was lifted for Brent Sisko, who got Bielmeier and Clark to strikeout to give Ladysmith their first conference win.

JV Summary: The Beavers lost 5-4, wasting a great pitching performance by Vaughn Waite. Waite went the distance, striking out 10 while allowing only two hits and walking four. The Jacks got all five of their runs in the fifth. Waite walked the first two hitters and then allowed a double to Alex Hampton. After an error by 3B Bryce Sebens, Josh Hilk hit a triple. He then retired the next three hitters in order. Ryan Behling and DJ Cifaldi had the only two hits for the Beavers, who struck out a whopping 17 times. That was their first loss of the season.
