Game Summary: The Beavers appeared to be down and out and were being dominated by 6'8" junior rightly Donnie Hissa, but a three run rally in the sixth aided by shoddy Tiger defense kept the Beavers in the game and allowed them to hang on for an eventual victory. Here's the details.

Cumberland spotted the Tigers a 4-0 lead in the first inning by committing four of their eight errors in the inning. Errors by SS Nolan Scheps, C Beau Bergstrom, CF Tommy Zappa, and 2B Graham Severson, along with a single by Hissa, plated four unearned runs for the Tigers. The Beavers answered for two in the second. A one out single by Scheps, followed by an RBI double by RF Sam Clark scored the Beaver's first run. Bergstrom hit a fly ball to RF, driving in Clark, who had advanced to 3B on a passed ball.

The Tigers tacked on a run in the third, pushing their lead to 5-2 when Hissa led off with a double and scored on a single by PH Sam Schiff.

Hissa was dominant on the mound, keeping the Beavers unbalanced. In nine innings of work, he punched out a whopping 16 hitters while walking zero. However, his defense let him down in the sixth, allowing the Beavers to tie the game. It happened like this... LF Sawyer FollansbeeDelong led off with a ground out to 2B, and 3B Adam Bielmeier grounded out to 3B. Zappa reached on an error by 3B Tim Follis, DH Mitch Blaser singled, and Miller reached on an error by Hissa. Scheps grounded hard to SS Kyle Standen who bobbled for an error. Clark grounded to Standen again, who bobbled again, for another error. Three runs had crossed the plate before Hissa got Bergstrom out on strikes.

Cumberland's ace Graham Miller was getting into and out of jams all night. The Tigers would eventually strand an incredible 17 runners on the day, but it was Miller and his 11 strikeouts that kept the Beaver's heartbeat ticking. In the 7th, he allowed a lead off double to Follis, but stranded him there by getting three of the next four hitters out. He got Nick Lahti to pop out with the bases loaded in the ninth as well to avoid another tight spot.

Both coaches pulled their pitchers after nine innings and left the game into the hands of their relievers. Fortunately for the Island City Boys, junior Nolan Scheps was up to the task, and Tiger pitcher Tim Follis was not.

The Beavers had a three run 10th inning that would prove to be the game's winning runs. Zappa led off with a walk, and Blaser singled him to 2B. Follis walked Miller to load the bases. Scheps flew to shallow CF, not deep enough to advance any runners. Clark hit a weak grounder to 1B, where Jon Lundeen made a strong throw to the plate for the forceout. With two outs, it looked as if the Beavers might pass on a golden opportunity. Beau Bergstrom strode to the plate and stroked a strong single to LF scoring two runs. Severson followed it by another single, scoring Clark. Vaughn Waite, running for Bergstrom, was cut down at the plate on a throw from LF Mike Lindsey.

Scheps struck out Lindsey to start the 10th, but Hissa reached on an error by Clark, now playing 3B. Lundeen flew out to Zappa in CF, and then Follis singled. Scheps got C Jake Tokar to fly out to Miller, now playing RF, to get the save.
