Game Summary: The Beavers took Barron to the proverbial wood-shed with a 13-1 whipping of the Bears at Islander Park on Monday night. The Bears had two of their game's four hits in the first inning, but stranded two when starting pitcher Tommy Zappa got 1B Matt Degerman to ground out weakly to himself to end the threat. The Beavers bats got going almost from the start. After SS Adam Bielmeier struck out, 2B Nolan Scheps tripled, and then scored when Zappa doubled him home. DH Graham Miller followed that up with a double, scoring Vaughn Waite, who was courtesy running for Zappa. Miller got to third when Tim Carlson struck out, but got to 1B on a wild pitch by Barron starting pitcher Doug Hoff. CF Brady Rose singled home Miller, with Carlson advancing to 3B. 1B Mitch Blaser grounded weakly to 3B, but Bear 3B Kyle Wirth got an error on a throw that drew Degerman off the base. RF Saywer FollansbeeDelong drew a walk, as did LF Ryan Behling, pushing across another run. After Bielmeier struck out for the second time in the inning, Scheps flew out to RF to end the inning and strand three.

The Beavers got another run in the 2nd when Zappa led off with a single. Vaughn Waite, running for him again, stole 2B and advanced to 3B on a wild throw from catcher Brent Burdick. Waite scored when Carlson grounded out to 2B.

The Beavers put the game away in the fourth with seven runs. Bielmeier tripled to start the inning. He held as Scheps grounded out to 3B for the first out. Zappa drew a walk, and Waite stole his second base of the game to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. After Miller walked to load the bases, Hoff was lifted for Ryan Church who faired no better. He walked Carlson and then Rose to push in a run. 1B Mitch Blaser doubled home two runs. FollansbeeDelong hit a soft pop up to shallow RF that was dropped by 2B Eric Holten, and advanced to 2B, with Miller going to 3B on a wild throw from Holten for his second error on the same play. LF Ryan Behling lined hard to CF, but Blaser failed to tag up from third to score the run. Bielmeier walked to reload the bases, and two runs scored when Scheps singled. Zappa grounded out to 2B to end the inning.

The Bears were able to score one run in the fifth when RF Landon Ramsos lined to RF, and advanced to 2B on a FollansbeeDelong error. He got to 3rd on a soft ground out to Zappa, and scored when Matt Linstead, who got the the final out in the fourth as the Barron pitcher, singled him home. Zappa struck out CF Andy Tireman to end the game after just 4-1/2 innings.

Zappa was masterful on the mound. He allowed no earned runs on four hits while walking none and striking out five. Of his 69 pitches, 45 were strikes.
