Game Summary: This one was ugly from the start, as Cumberland suffered what might be the worst hour in several years, an hour that started in the bottom of the first and ended after the top of the 2nd. Things started well as sophomore Vaughn Waite made a start on the mound, and retired three of the first four Bloomer hitters without incident. Things looked even better as the Beavers loaded the bases with no outs in the first. SS Adam Bielmeier reached on an error by Bloomer SS Matt Schley. 3B Nolan Scheps got hit by a pitcher from Bloomer starter Alex Koehler, and CF Tommy Zappa drew a walk. RF Graham Miller hit sharply to 3B, where Bielmeier was forced out, and 2B hit into a fielder's choice, narrowly avoiding a double play. Miller then got picked off 2nd base by Koehler, and that was it. No runs. Waite walked the first hitter of the inning, and then a two base error was committed by Miller when he dropped a fly ball to RF. RF Jake Zwieffelhofer hit back to Waite who threw in the dirt to 2B, on a ball that couldn't be handled by Bielmeier, leaving all hands safe. Waite then walked the next four hitters on 14 pitches. Scheps came in and got Schley to hit to SS, but Bielmeier misplayed the ball, allowing two more to score. Two more singles and two more walks would add up to 10 runs given up in the inning. The Beavers got their only run in the 2nd when Bergstrom reached with one out on an error by 3B Seth Burgess. 1B Mitch Blaser hit into a fielder's choice, and advanced to 2B on a walk issued to 3B Tim Carlson. Bielmeier singled home Blaser. Scheps lined hard to LF to end the inning. Bloomer scored one in the third and twice in the fifth to take a 12 run lead and win the game in five innings. The JV had a nice 10-inning win over the Hawks. CF Eric Turcott doubled with two outs to tie the game in the 7th. Kyle Narges scored on a DJ Cifaldi sacrifice fly to win in the 10th. Errors: Bloomer: Schley, Burgess. Cumberland: Bielmeier (2), Waite, Miller. |
