Game Summary: Boyceville scored their two and only runs in the first, both unearned before the skies opened up and delayed the game for 30 minutes. Nolan Scheps pitched an outstanding game, but with only two hits for the Beavers, runs were at a premium all day long. The Dogs got their runs with one out. After SS Jason Stuart struck out, 2B hit a flyball to LF Saywer FollansbeeDelong that was dropped, allowing him to reach 2nd base. After Scheps struck out 1B Ryan Bloom, Jordan Pellet reached on a Ryan Behling throwing error. Behling went deep into the hole at 2B to spear the grounder, but threw in the dirt and was charged with the error. C Luke Hellman then doubled, and Pellet, who had stole 2B, scored. Scheps got Jake Hansen to strikeout to end the inning. As the rain began to fall, both teams pitched in and tarped the mound and plate. After 30 minutes, with the temperature down and the winds up, it was time to go back to work. Like the weather, however, the Beaver bats never warmed up... not in Game 1 at least. Though starting pitcher Jordan Pellet of Boyceville would issue 12 walks and two hits, he pitched out of several jams, and used seven strikeouts to help him strand 12 Beaver runners. The Beavers got their only run of the game in the fifth, when 1B Mitch Blaser got a one-out walk. Afgter Pellet walked DH Brady Rose and gave up his first single of the game to Behling to load the bases, CF Tommy Zappa struck out on a high fastball. SS Adam Bielmeier inticed a walk, but Pellet got Scheps to ground out to 2B to end the threat. Boyceville pitcher Ben Murasek got a one-inning save by pitching a scoreless seventh. After getting RF Graham Miller to pop out to 2B, he allowed a solid single to 3B Tim Carlson. Carlson was forced into a fielder's choice by FollansbeeDelong, who was stranded when Blaser struck out. Scheps was the hard-luck loser, allowing no earned runs in seven innings of work, while striking out eight Bulldogs. Errors: Boyceville: Nelson. Cumberland: FollansbeeDelong, Behling. |
