Game Summary: The Beavers got their second great pitching performance in as many nights, this time from senior righty Graham Miller. Miller scattered three hits and only walked three in a game shortened to six innings by the 10 run rule. Despite the 11-1 final, it was a close game, as both teams remained scoreless throughout the first three innings. The Beavers had a chance to score in the first when 2B Nolan Scheps got a one-out walk off of Chetek starter Beau Schultz, and advanced to 3B on a CF Tommy Zappa single. Scheps was, however, thrown out at the plate on a double steal attempt. Miller struckout to end the threat. Chetek had three runners get into scoring position in their first three innings, but Miller was able to end every single threat by getting a strikeout. The Beavers finally plated a run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. Scheps led off with a single. After Zappa struck out, Miller and 3B Tim Carlson drew walks to load the bases. 1B Mitch Blaser hit a sacrifice fly to CF to score Scheps. DH Vaughn Waite struck out to end the inning. Miller allowed a lead off double to SS Travis Schwarzhuber in the fourth, but promptly picked him off 2B. C Shaun Robotka singled with two outs, stole second, but once again Miller struck out the final batter of the inning to keep the shutout intact. The Beavers exploded for seven runs in the fifth off two different pitchers, as Schultz was lifted in the start of the fifth. LF Ryan Behling singled on a flare to lead off the inning. C Beau Bergstrom reached on an error by Robotka. SS Adam Bielmeier sac-bunted both up one base. Scheps tripled to LF, scoring both runners. Zappa walked, and Miller reached on an error, this time by Chetek SS Jeremy Corder. Carlson walked. Blaser flew to RF for the 2nd out. Sawyer FollansbeeDelong, now playing RF walked. Behling got his 2nd hit of the inning, driving in two. Bergstrom and Bielmeier walked, driving in another run. Scheps lined out hard to 3B to end the inning. the Beavers got three runs in the sixth, to put the game away via the 10-run rule. Errors: Chetek: Robotka, Corder. Cumberland: Blaser, Carlson. |
