Game Summary: The Beavers lost a well pitched game by both sides as once again errors and the inability to come up with timely hits left them on the short end of the stick, 4-2. The Beavers did take a 1-0 lead in the second inning when RF Graham Miller reached with no outs on a throwing error by Chetek 2B Blake Bowers. He advanced to 2B on a Tim Carlson groundout, and scored when LF Sawyer FollasnbeeDelong singled to CF. After DH Vaughn Waite struck out, 1B Mitch Blaser singled to RF...however FollansbeeDelong got a bad jump and was thrown out at the plate by RF Derek Olesiak. The Bulldogs took the lead in the third with two runs. Olesiak reached 1B on a controversial call, and Zappa walked the ninth batter in the order, Turner Olson, to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Both runners reached moved up on a wild pitch, and Olesiak scored on a groundout by SS Travis Schwarzhuber. LF Josh Hodgson blooped to CF, where Ryan Behling got a bad jump and was charged with an error on the sacrifice fly. Zappa promptly picked off Hodgson and got Bowers to ground out to end the inning. Chetek got an unearned run in the fourth when C Shaun Robotka reached with one out on a throwing error by SS Adam Bielmeier. He would later score on a 3B Turner Olson single. Jeremy Corder, who had reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to 2B on a groundout, was cut down at the plate when RF Graham Miller threw him out trying to score on a nice tag play by C Beau Bergstrom. A lead off walk to Schwarzhuber and a single by Lucas Marty that was misplayed by FollansbeeDelong turned into another run. The Beavers got a run in the sixth when Zappa flied deep to CF on a ball that was dropped by Corder who was charged with a two base error. He advanced to 3B on a wild pitch. After 2B Nolan Scheps walked, Miller hit a rocket right at Olesiak in RF that scored Zappa. Carlson walked, but FollansbeeDelong struckout and Bergstrom grounded weakly to 3B to end the inning. The Beavers had a chance when Blaser reached on a throwing error to lead off the inning. Behling grounded hard to SS which was a fielder's choice. After Bielmeier struck out, Zappa hit 1-1 foul ball that just missed the LF foul pole. He struck out on the next pitch, a curve ball in the dirt, to end the game. Zappa pitched well, giving up only two earned runs, throwing 67 strikes and only 27 balls. Errors: Cumberland: Behling, Bielmeier, FollansbeeDelong: Chetek: Bowers (2), Corder. |
