Game Summary: The Beavers let this one get away, as SCF scored six times in the 9th inning to win Game 2 of the Island City Tournament 10-4. Things looked good early, as SS Adam Bielmeier led off with a walk and advanced to 2B on a 2B Nolan Scheps single. After CF Tommy Zappa bunted them over, Bielmeier was able to score on a passed ball. Starting pitcher Graham Miller drew a walk and 3B Tim Carlson drove in a run by singleing. The inning became one of lost opportunities as Vaughn Waite, running for Miller was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch, and Carlson got thrown out as well. The Beavers were only able to get two runs out of that. The Saints got one back in the 2nd when SCF starting pitcher Gus Koecker reached on an error by Scheps, and scored on an RBI single by DH Blake Klopfer. Miller struck out the next three hitters to avoid further damage. The Saints scored twice in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. The last three hitters in the Saints order went double-double-single, all with two outs, to score twice. The Beavers rallied to retake the lead in the their half of the fourth. LF Saywer FollansbeeDelong hit a one-out single. After RF Ryan Behling lined out to 2B, Koecker issued four consecutive walks before being lifted for Ben Anderson, who in turned walked a hitter before getting Zappa to ground out to the pitcher. That was it for Cumberland scoring. The Saints tied the game in the fifth. Miller kept his team in it despite four errors committed behind him. The wheels fell off in the ninth when Anderson reached on an error by Bielmeier to lead off the inning. Miller then allowed consecutive hits. Scheps relieved him with one out, but couldn't but out the fire, as hesurrendered three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk. PH Vaughn Waite got on base with two outs in the 9th by getting hit by a pitch and Carlson walked, but the game ended with a FollansbeeDelong foul-out to the catcher. Errors: Christianson. Cumberland: Scheps (2), Bielmeier, Carlson. |
