Game Summary: Despite being outhit by Unity and committing more errors, the Beavers avenged a previous loss to the Eagles by winning Game 2 of the Amery Tournament 7-4. Things looked bleak for Beaver Nation from the get-go when they went bleakly out in the 1st, and Bielmeier's first pitch of the game was hit out of the park by Eagle CF Jason Vlasnik. Bielmeier allowed one more hit and a walk in the inning, but got out of the jam... something he would do all day long. The Beavers went 1-2-3 in the 2nd and stranded two Eagle runners in the 2nd. Finally, the Beaver Bats woke and put up four runs in the third. 3B Mike Harris struck out to lead off the inning, but 2B Ryan Behling drew a one out walk (Behling would reach base every time but once this afternoon). Bielmeier got hit on the shoulder by Despiegelaere, and flustered, the Unity pitcher walked C Beau Bergstrom to load the bases. CF Tommy Zappa hit an outside fastball to the LF-CF gap, driving in three runs to put the Beavers ahead, for a lead they would never relinquish. After RF Brady Rose drew a walk and stole 2B, DH Tim Carlson also drew a walk to reload the bases. Despiegelaere threw a wild pitch, and Zappa scampered home. LF Sawyer FollansbeeDelong grounded out to the pitcher and 1B Vaughn Waite hit a check-swing liner to 2B Derek Jorgenson to end the inning. The Eagles would have got a run in the 2nd inning, when with two outs and a runner on third, RF Drew Walker drove a ball deep to left that was speared on a diving catch by Brady Rose for the third out. The Eagles got a run back in the fourth when Bielmeier issued a lead off walk to Justin McKenzie, who had come into pitch to relieve Despiegelaere. Despiegelaere singled, as McKenzie scampered to 3B. RF Hilleshien hit into a double play, started by freshman shortstop Kyle Narges, to empty the bases, as McKenzie scored. The Beavers broke out for three more runs into the fifth. RF Brady Rose single to lead off the inning and promptly stole 2B. After Carlson popped out to 3rd, FollansbeeDelong singled hard up the middle to score Rose. Waite hit a bomb to CF that was caught by Vlasnik on a diving catch. Harris singled to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Ryan Behling doubled to LF just over LF Drew Walker's head, scoring two runners. Bielmeier singled, but two runners were left stranded when C Beau Bergstrom flied out to CF. The Eagles plated single runs in the fifth and sixth, but it wasn't enough as Bielmeier masterfully pitched out of jams, stranding 13 enemy runners along the way. He was aided by a two out catch in the fifth by CF Tommy Zappa, whose spinning catch left enemy runners stranded on base. Though there were some very solid plays by the defense, his defense wasn't overly helpful as the Beavers committed five errors. OF Bielmeier's four runs given up, only two were earned. It was a great effort on his part, and by his father Randy, the Beaver's pitching coach, who calls the pitches. Errors: Narges, Zappa, Harris, Behling, Waite. |
