Game Summary: A disastrous 4th inning doomed the Beavers as eight runs scored for Wisco against three different Beaver Pitchers. Things looked promising when the Beavers took an early lead by scoring twice in the first inning. SS Adam Bielmeier led off with a walk and advanced to 3rd when starting pitcher Nolan Scheps singled hard to CF. After CF Tommy Zappa struck out, DH Graham Miller singled in Bielmeier, with Scheps advancing to 3B. Scheps scored on a groundout by 3B Tim Carlson. 1B Mitch Blaser struckout to end the inning. Wisco cut it to 2-1 in the 2nd, and took a 3-2 lead in the third, aided by four walks and a double. The Beaves put up four in the third to take the lead. Bielmeier, Scheps, and Zappa drew three consecutive walks to start the inning, and all scored on a Graham Miller triple. Miller scored on a sacrifice fly by Carlson. Blaser flew out to CF and FollansbeeDelong struckout to end the inning. Sophomore Vaughn Waite relieved Scheps in the top of the fourth. He walked the lead off hitter, and induced the inning's second hitter to hit into a fielder's choice that was almost turned for a double play. The next hitter flew to LF on a ball that should have been caught by FollansbeeDelong to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Waite walked two more hitters, and was lifted for Graham Miller who got lit up by the Wisco hitters. Miller walked four and gave up four hits including a triple to make the score 11-6. Cumberland got three of those back in the fourth when Nolan Scheps hit a three-run laser over the LF fence, scoring Rose and Bergstrom who had reached on errors. Miller gave up five runs in the fifth. Scheps reentered for Miller as pitcher and did a good job getting out of the inning and allowing only an unearned run in the 7th. The Beavers return home road-weary and ready for home-cookin'. They host Barron on Monday, Chetek on Tuesday, and Northwestern for a DH on Saturday. Errors: FollansbeeDelong, Zappa, Carlson. |
